Staff spotlight series: Younes El Alami
Continuing our Staff Spotlight Series, we shine a light on the people behind Leighton O’Brien who make the company tick. This time we are lifting the curtain on our Operations Engineer for EMEA, Younes El Alami.
Describe what you do and the best part about your job?
I work as an Operational Engineer for Europe, the Middle East, Africa, and India for our testing and cleaning technologies.
My main responsibilities include technical troubleshooting, logistics, reporting, conducting demos, providing field training and support in the region, and engaging with partners and customers.
The teams I work with are based in multiple countries worldwide, many of them being in Australia and the US, so overseeing this region is a big responsibility, but I’m very happy to have it!
What do clients love about your work?
Leighton O’Brien is a client and partner-oriented business. I’d like to think our partners appreciate my prompt and accessible assistance when it comes to technical and logistical support inquiries. It’s a rewarding challenge when you are managing multiple areas with different cultures such EMEA and India.
What’s a work-related accomplishment you’re really proud of?
I was and I am still happy with my decision to join Leighton O’Brien in January 2021, two and a half years ago.
Upon joining, I took on the challenge of managing and overseeing operations within this region. Despite facing difficulties such as the Covid-19 pandemic or dealing with multiple time zones and countries, I successfully managed to ramp up projects in the region and help grow the business. How couldn’t I be prouder? Thanks LOB for this opportunity!
Where is the best place you’ve traveled to and why?
Honestly, the best place I have been to is Australia, where I visited Melbourne and Sydney for my training.
Personally, it was my first time in this part of the world – it’s a long 22-hour flight from Morocco! I really liked Australian people and their culture. They are very kind, welcoming and open-minded people.
Professionally, I got to meet my LOB colleagues from Melbourne, after working together for over a year and a half.
It was a great experience, and I really look forward to my next trip to Australia!
What are the last 3 streaming series or movies you’ve binged on?
I am a big fan of movies based on true stories! The last three movies I watched were “Air” (the true story of when Nike signed Michael Jordan in the biggest ever commercial sports deal), “Moneyball”, a story about a baseball franchise manager who revolutionizes major league baseball by building a competitive baseball team on the lowest budget, and “Captain Phillips”, one of the most captivating stories where a cargo ship captain is taken hostage by Somali pirates.
If you wrote an autobiography, what would the title be?
It would be “Mr. Self Sufficient”.
I’ve been recently described as “Mr. Self Sufficient” by our CEO and I believe this really defines me. I’ve always tried in my life, personally or professionally, to create the best outcome possible from any situation. “Mr. Self Sufficient” would also be a good movie title, wouldn’t it?
